Vuelta a España: Riders question conditions of dirt bike path team time trial course | Cyclingnews.com

Some of the riders in this year’s Vuelta a España had a shock on Thursday morning when they studied the route of Saturday’s opening team time trial and realised that sections of the 7.4km seafront course are on a sand and dirt covered bike path, with the finish on the Levante beach in Marbella apparently reached via a raised platform.
The official race manual showed the 7.4km course starting on a narrow sea wall in Puerto Banus and hugging the seafront but does not show the conditions of the surface or the platform finish on the beach.
Chris Froome was one of the first to raise concerns about safety, after realising that he and his teammates will be expected to race at close to 50km/h on the dirt track. The Tour de France winner posted a collage of photos from Team Sky’s morning recon ride, showing how wheels struggled on the dirt surface and revealing a wooden decking section.
Froome also reached out to the Cyclistes Professionnels Associés representitives for the Vuelta Iker Camaño Jose Luis De Santos, asking: “Any thoughts?”

Other riders were not so diplomatic, with Australian Movistar rider Rory Sutherland tweeting several photos of the dirt and sandy surface, asking: “is the @UCI_cycling serious that this is acceptable? Union???”
Froome’s teammate Nicolas Roche also vented his disappointment about the course by tweeting a photo of his rear wheel carving a groove into the dirt. He asked: “Vuelta ttt!!!! Are you joking????”
Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) tweeted a photo of a long section of rubber mats that also seemed part of the team time trial course.
Despite the questons about the road surface and safety, the race organisers seem happy with the planned route. The official Vuelta Twitter account posted a photo of the narrow finish platform, writing: “Look at the finish line of the first stage of #LV2015 in Playa de Levante! Everything is ready!”

Defeating Enemies Increases Your Bust Size in This Game

Defeating Enemies Increases Your Bust Size in This Game1
D3 Publisher hasn’t always been the most subtle developer with games like the Dream Club series and Metal Gear Panty-er I mean Summer-Colored High School. Their new upcoming game for the PS Vita, Omega Labyrinth carries on the D3 Publisher traditional unhindged libido wackiness with an unhealthy obsession with boobs.
Omega Labyrinth (see the visual pun right in the title logo above?) is a rogue-like dungeon crawler RPG where every time you take an action, the enemies all take an action simultaneously. By going deeper and deeper into the randomly generated dungeon, you can level up and obtain rare and valuable items, but your level is reduced to 1 when you leave, and dying in the dungeon causes you to forfeit all your hard-earned loot.
Defeating Enemies Increases Your Bust Size in This Game2
As a base system, the game is fairly straight forward, but it wouldn’t be a D3 Publisher game if it was just a “fairly straight forward” game.
The story involves the female students of the Anberriel Girl’s Academy. As the protagonist, you select students to navigate the dungeon to win the Cup of Beauty—a fabled item that will grant the bearer one wish. All the girls of the academy have the same wish: To increase their bust size.
Defeating Enemies Increases Your Bust Size in This Game
By defeating enemies, not only do you obtain EXP, but you also gain “Omega Points”—the physical manifestation of “Womanly Power.” This power is, and I’m quoting here, “stored in the breasts. By gathering Omega Power, the girl’s breast size increases as well as their stats.”
The game will also apparently make use of the PS Vita’s motion sensor and rear touch pad for... stuff. Yes, the game is restricted for ages 17 and above.

Omega Labyrinth is scheduled for release in Japan on the PS Vita on November 19th. No word on an international release.Source==K====

Sony's Metal Gear Solid Walkman is a truly tasteful video game tie-in

In celebration of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Sony has released a bunch of Phantom Pain-branded electronics, including a new version of its high-fidelity Walkman, the super-expensive ZX2. The customized music player is listed for ¥140,000 on Sony's site (that's around $1,126 — the same as a normal ZX2), and has the game's title stamped on the front. It also comes with a leather case branded with the logo of the game's Outer Heaven mercenary group, as well as four pre-installed Phantom Pain wallpapers, a handful of HD Metal Gear songs, and original packaging.

The Phantom Pain-branded NX2 and NW-A16 MP3 players. (Sony / Konami) If luxury MP3 players aren't your thing though, Sony is also offering similarly-branded Xperia Z4 and Z3 Compact tablets, as well as a special edition J1 Compact smartphone and a less-pricey NW-A16 Walkman. All of these come with similar perks to the ZX2, including Outer Heaven branding (either on the rear of the device in the case of the NW-A16 and J1 Compact, or on limited edition cases for the tablets), pre-loaded wallpapers, and a handful of HD tracks.Source==

Yvonne Craig, 'Batgirl' from 1960s TV show, dies at 78

Before Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman, before Joanna Cameron’s Isis, before Scarlett Johannsson’s Black Widow, Yvonne Craig was a pioneer of female superheroes on screen.
As an actress, she originated the role of Batgirl in the 1960s “Batman” television series. As a trained dancer, she did her own stunts.
Craig died this week after a long two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 78.
The cancer metastasized to her liver, and she died Monday in her home in Pacific Palisades.
“She had been in chemo almost continuously for the past two plus years since being diagnosed and that had weakened her immune system as well as her body,” her family said in a statement late Tuesday night.
“This didn’t dampen her sense of humor or her spirit, she intended to fight and win this battle. In the end, her mind still wanted to fight but her body had given up.”
Craig originated the role of Batgirl in the show’s third and final season in 1967, kapowing and zzonking the bad guys alongside Adam West and Burt Ward’s dynamic duo of Batman and Robin.
“I hear from women that I was their role model,” she said in an interview earlier this year. “‘When I was a little girl, I realized that girls could kick butt just like guys,’ [they’d say].”
She also had a memorable role as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta who wanted to kill Captain Kirk in a third-season episode of “Star Trek.”
But even beyond those two well-remembered roles, Craig had a long and illustrious career that began as the youngest member of a ballet company.
Accidental actress
Craig explained in news interviews how she got into acting while she was still touring as a dancer.
“I was invited to dinner by a man who was a producer, who wanted to put me in movies and I said I wasn’t interested,” she said.
“[Director] John Ford’s son walked by and asked ‘Excuse me, are you an actress?’ And as I shook my head and tried to swallow, [the producer said], ‘She is and I’m her manager. What can I do for you?’ Typical Hollywood.
“They were doing a movie with John Wayne’s son Patrick, and they were looking for a leading lady. And I became it.”
That was 1959’s “The Young Land.”
She went on to appear in several films, including two with Elvis Presley — “It Happened at the World’s Fair” and “Kissin’ Cousins.”
She then parlayed her success into television roles, guest starring in several series, most notably several episodes of “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” and “77 Sunset Strip.”
Then came her role as Batgirl.
A hero is born
DC Comics was asked to create a new Batgirl to help get the show a third season, and Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, Barbara, took on the identity of the newest masked avenger in Gotham City, both on TV and in the comic books.
“It was a wonderful experience,” Craig said.
“The crew liked one another, the cast liked one another. It doesn’t happen often, and when it does, it’s a joy to go to work every day. I got to work with people that I would never have the chance to work with. We had Ethel Merman, I would never have met Milton Berle, I got to work with him, and he was a delight.”
Craig described the characters of Barbara Gordon and Batgirl as “very close to who I am.”
She clearly had an impact.
“Most of the joy in my current life can be traced back in some way to seeing Yvonne Craig be amazing as Batgirl, my first real life hero,” said Gil Simone, a former writer of the Batgirl comics.
Among Craig’s biggest fans is the man running her website now, Scott Sebring.
“As a kid, I looked up to her as a superhero on television. As an adult, I looked up to her as a human being,” Sebring said. “She and her sister Meridel became these two of the coolest aunts in my life. And our friendship is something that I will never forget.”
Her post-“Batman” TV stint lasted several years and spanned many of the hit shows of the time, including “The Six Million Dollar Man” and the “Mod Squad.”
The later years
In later years, Craig worked as a real estate broker, did voice over work for the Nickelodeon cartoon “Olivia,” and, with her sister, went into the prepaid phone card business.
She wrote a memoir, “From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond,” and was publicly vocal about her support for free mammograms for women who couldn’t afford them.
“She was one special lady and my best friend, so will be missed terribly,” the sister, Meridel Carson, said early Wednesday morning.
As news broke of her death, fans shared what Craig meant to them.
Craig leaves behind her husband, Kenneth Aldrich; her sister and two nephews.
The family will hold a private service but hasn’t set a date. They asked that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the cancer research and treatment center, the Angeles Clinic Foundation.Source===Fox8===

Head lice in Va., NC now resistant to common treatments

Staff, 13News Now 10:39 a.m. EDT August 19, 2015
Head lice. They're a problem in schools and other areas where children are in close quarters.
Now there's news that they're getting harder to kill.
A Southern Illinois University study shows lice in 25 states, including Virginia and North Carolina, are now immune to over-the-counter treatments.
High levels of gene mutations are desensitizing the insects to permethrin, the active ingredient lice shampoos, researchers say. It's in a family of insecticides called pyrethroids , which are widely used indoors and outdoors to control mosquitoes and other insects.
Lice can be treated with different chemicals, but most are only available by prescription.
Researcher Kyong Yoon, Ph.D, says the situation also offers a cautionary tale.
"If you use a chemical over and over, these little creatures will eventually develop resistance," Yoon says. "So we have to think before we use a treatment. The good news is head lice don't carry disease. They're more a nuisance than anything else."
